It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date.
The Book Diet
I had done pretty well. I hadn’t purchased a book for 6 days. So I rewarded myself…pretty much with 1 book for each day I didn’t buy a book. I swear I can’t resist when all these “bargains” cross my path. “It’s less than $2!” I tell myself while buying 10 of them…
Here’s the list:
- God is Disappointed in You (I blame my brother-in-law for this one….)
- Fortune Favors the Wicked (Blame this on BookBub)
- Outside the Limelight (Really this is a Kindle Unlimited book. Does that count? …and what the hell? How did I not notice that this was book 2?)
- La Americana
- And quite a few audiobooks.
How on earth did I get so many books on my Litsy TBR list???? I’ve been trying to sit down every day for 10 minutes and get them on my Goodreads list and I still have so.many.more to go!!!
Where I’m Lurking
I’m slowly coming to the realization that challenges, -alongs and bingo just aren’t for me. Theat doesn’t stop me from lurking and using the ideas I come across to broaden my reading horizons. Last week Asian Lit Bingo was on my radar. Watch my TBR garden grow.
A friend recently sent me a link to an article about raising bilingual readers on the La Phoenikera blog. I’ve been lurking over there ever since.
Last week I read and heard
I finished up Me Talk Pretty One Day. I can’t say that I loved the Hoopla experience, but oh mylanta I loved David Sedaris. I may have to actually buy this on Audible because I could listen to it again and again and again. I just love his English translations of the French of someone learning the language (oh, that was convoluted.) I have so many hangups about my Spanish, I’m sure I sound the same way. At least now I can laugh at myself.
After Me Talk Pretty One Day, I decided to try When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris. It was available through my library on OverDrive. I like the OverDrive experience so much more than Hoopla
I’m currently reading
I don’t feel like I’m currently reading anything. I keep carrying around Princess Jellyfish Vol. 3 and The Hate U Give, but I haven’t actually read them. I fear a slump. I really do.
Most of my focus has been on catching up with the chapters of Ramona on Serial Reader.
On the kindle I’ve been in and out of Royal Scandal by Marquita Valentine and Alma by Menchu Garcerán.
I started Alphabet Juice by Roy Blount Jr. We didn’t get along. I bailed.
I’m currently Listening to…
When my daughter was here last summer she introduced us to the Phrynne Fisher mysteries on Netflix. I’ve been meaning to try the books ever since. I’m trying out Cocaine Blues while I work on some knitting projects.
What I’m Watching
Meh. I’m probably still watching too much TV. (Which is why I fear the reading slump.) There have been all kinds of schedule changes in Telenovelalandia, with one show going to Saturday and another airing for 2 hours a night. AND a Turkish thriller started as well (daily for 2 hours.) I can’t keep up with it all, but I can’t seem to quit any of them.
Can you still consider yourself a reader if you are spending more time watching TV?
In the kitchen
Home Chef is a winner. We are sticking with them no matter what. We are still debating whether to just stick to one or chose a second just for variety’s sake.
Along with the fixings for two fabulous meals, Plated sent instructions for origami flowers. How can I drop them if they are sending me origami???? Although they are pricey and the serving sizes do seem a little smaller. (but…origami….)
We got our first Blue Apron on Saturday. I had every intention of cooking one of the meals on Sunday, but I got lazy and pulled the Mother’s Day card. My husband went out and got Chinese take out for us. Such a provider.
I only set off the smoke alarm once.
On the needles
I decided I needed a kitchen towel. Chili Pepper to the rescue! Some people meditate. I knit mindless patterns. I actually started two. One in a mercerized, sport-weight cotton and another in worsted weight cotton. I’m not sure the mercerized was a good choice.
So on the book front a rather sluggish week, but the TV has gotten a workout.
